Also known as the sharp Rainbow Mountain, Pallay Punchu de Apu Tacllo or Pallay Poncho Mountain or Condor Sayana. It is a new tourist destinations in Cusco that was discovered during the quarantine. Located more than 194 kilometers (3 hours) from the city at 4,791 meters above sea level. It is a great geological mountain formation tinged with different tones as a result of the complex combination of minerals. The Slopes and summit stand out in various colors, including red, pink, purple, green, white, among others.
Early pick up from your accommodation to start our two hour trip to the town of Cusipata. where we will enjoy a nutritious breakfast. We continue on to Sicuani, and later to the Layo district, place of the Pallay Mountain.
In Layo we make a short stop to see the town. Then our vehicle will ascend for 30 minutes until the base of the mountain. We will begin a walk of approximately two and a half hours to the sharp Pallay Punchu Mountain with pigmentation of contrasting colors that are due to a complex combination of minerals, marine, lake and river sediments.
With time, these sediments were formed by layers of different lengths, as a result of the collision of the tectonic plates in the area. These strips of various minerals ended up rising and transforming into the mountains that we can appreciate today.
The colors of the place are formed by the oxidation of its minerals, exerted by the humidity of the area and their erosion.
The climate in the Pallay Punchu is cold and windy in the mornings, but drier and sunnier at noon.
Throughout the trip we can observe beautiful landscapes and wildlife in the area. In addition, very close to the Paylla Punchu is the beautiful Langui lagoon that gives the mountain a spectacular feeling and makes it such an attractive destination. After we finish our visit we will have lunch in one of the local restaurants in Layo, a place with a diverse gastronomy based on trout and alpaca.
Return to Cusco at 6pm approx.
