City tour in Lima
Modern Lima
Our tour begins at the residential districts of Miraflores and San Isidro. We make a stop at the panoramic view of the Huaca Pucllana, a pre-Inca pyramid shaped ceremonial temple that has survived the urban expansion of Lima.
Colonial Lima
Next is the historic center, declared a cultural heritage by UNESCO in 1991, where the heart of the Spanish colony was established in the 16th century. We will visit the Plaza San Martín with it’s beautiful old houses and balconies, the Plaza Mayor and its most important buildings such as the Government Palace, the Cathedral, the Municipal and Archbishop Palaces, Desamparados station, among others.
Lima Cathedral and its Museum of Religious Art
The Cathedral has several styles, from late Gothic and Renaissance to Baroque and Plateresque. At the time of the beginning of the construction, the place had a Renaissance architecture. It has a rectangular hall plan, emulating the Cathedral of Seville. The ceiling is supported by Gothic ribbed vaults that recreate a starry sky, which are made out of wood and stucco to ease the weight on the walls and prevent it from collapsing in the event of an earthquake.
After a good breakfast at your hotel, our staff will take you to the airport for your flight to Cusco (1hr10min flight approx.). Upon arrival in Cusco, the "Archaeological Capital of America", a member of our team will meet you at the airport and drop you at your hotel. You will have free time to acclimatize and get used to the altitude or to explore some of the city's attractions: San Pedro traditional market, the bohemian neighborhood of San Blas or one of the many museums, such as the Pre-Columbian Museum of Art, Casa Concha and etc... Because of the altitude, it’s recommendable to take it easy on your first day in Cusco. Drink coca tea and plenty of water.
Between 13:00 -13:15 the city tour (Optional visit of the cathedral) will begin at "Qoricancha" (Temple of the Sun); Next are the archaeological ruins of Sacsayhuaman, Qenqo, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay. We return to the city at night where you can enjoy dinner and visit the Plaza de Armas.
Overnight in Cusco.
07:15am Pick up at your hotel to begin the excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. This beautiful place is made up of numerous rivers that descend through greenery and valleys. This tour includes a visit to two of the best Inca architectural remains.
First, the ruins of Pisaq, an impressive construction built in the early period of the Inca empire. Here we can admire the great structural work with the vast amount of agricultural terraces that decorate the mountains around them. In the center of the temple of Pisaq, there is an Intiwatana (solar clock) and buildings where the Inca nobility lived 500 years ago.
After this ancient citadel, we continue to the town of Pisaq, located on the right bank of the Urubamba River, populated almost entirely by Inca descendants. We explore the picturesque artisan market where people, still to this day, maintain the ancient tradition of bartering, exchanging things or food. For those who like to buy souvenirs, this is undoubtedly one of the best places to do so, as there is a wide variety of alpaca wool items, silver and gold jewelry, among others.
We continue on to Urubamba for a delicious buffet lunch, with a big variety of dishes. After our meal we go to Ollantaytambo and it’s beautiful fortress. Our guide will give a detailed explanation about the site and show us the most important spots. The walk to the top is a bit steep so it is recommended to take it easy and go slowly (bring a bottle of water).
Once the guided tour is finished, at 4:36p.m. we take the train to the town of Machu Picchu to spend the night. The guide will meet you at your accommodation to give you a small briefing about the tour the next day.
