Unlike the popular treks in Cusco, the Lares valley journey truly takes you to remote places, destinations still unknown to many. An expedition to the very heart of the Andes where few tourists have ventured. This wonderful trail has beautiful natural landscapes with impressive glaciers. A totally different world, an Andean paradise where the inhabitants of the small villages still follow ancient traditions on their daily lives. This amazing trip finishes in the sanctuary of Machu Picchu, one of the 7 wonders of our planet.
Early pick up from your hotel in our vehicle to travel through the Sacred Valley to the province of Calca. From here it will take two and a half hours to reach the district of Lares, a special place to enjoy the hot springs where we can spend the whole morning in these medicinal baths. Afterwards we begin our route walking for 2.5 hours approximately towards the camping place Wacawasi, meeting local people along the way
Early breakfast and continue the trek towards the highest area of the valley. Here the local people produce some of the best textiles in Peru with great, ancient skills and brilliant techniques for the manufacturing of ponchos and clothing. Then, we start the walk towards the Condor mountain pass (4100mts) to stop for lunch. Afterwards, we can admire the impressive view of the Verónica snowy peak (5750mts). The descent will take one hour, arriving at the beautiful Ipsaycocha lagoon, our last campsite.
Walk down into the valley to the community of Huiylloc for lunch. It will take another 2 hours to Pumamarka, a place decorated with majestic Inca terraces. Next is Ollantaytambo, located in a fertile valley with rivers surrounded by huge mountains. It is considered one of the most important remaining Inca town because it has survived the test of time. It is the perfect place to admire the vast archaeological remains and the immense variety of flowers and birds. We will take you to the station to board the Ollantaytambo- Aguas Calientes train, where you will spend the night at the hotel of your choice.
Early in the morning after breakfast we take the bus to the citadel of Machu Picchu and begin the 2 hour guided tour. There is the option to climb the mountain of Huayna Picchu (You have to request it in advance) and visit the different sites recommended by our guide, such as Inti Punku (Sun gate) and the Inca bridge. Finally we take the train to the town of Ollantaytambo and return to Cusco.
