In this shorter version of the famous route, called the Royal Inca Trail, you will live an unforgettable adventure. This tour includes a four hour hike uphill towards the Inca architectural complex of Wiñay Huayna and meals that follow strict bio-security safety regulations protocols. Our expert guide will give provide information about the flora and fauna of the place and the Inca construction and agriculture techniques, before arriving at the astonishing site of Machu Picchu.
General information
Very early in the morning (6:00 am), our private vehicle and a Mundo Mapi staff member, following bio-security protocols, will pick you up from your home or from a previously agreed point to take you to the train station to start the adventure at 7:02am. We embark on a beautiful journey of about three and a half hours to the starting point of the trek, the Km. 104 of the railroad track that connects Cusco to Machu Picchu Pueblo.
Once we arrive, we will have to register at a checkpoint before crossing the Vilcanota River. On the other side of the bridge, the path veers to the right, towards the Inca architectural complex of Chachabamba, which was discovered in 1940 and is located on the ancient Inca highway that runs alongside the southern bank of the Vilcanota River. The style of buildings and stonework suggest that Chachabamba was an important place dedicated to spiritual activities and that was also used as a checkpoint, guarding this access road to Machu Picchu.
From Chachabamba, the Inca Trail heads south and goes up the mountain into the forests crossing a small stream. Then the path turns to the west, continuing uphill, leading up to open grasslands.
About two and a half hours after Chachabamba, the road descends into a shady forest area. After a few more minutes, there is a beautiful waterfall where we can enjoy ourselves for a short while before we reach the magnificent Inca complex of Wiñay Huayna. From this point, it will be a 25 to 30 minute walk to the “Interpretation Center”. Our guide will provide us with detailed and informative explanations while we go around the site. We will be able to admire the urban area on top of the stepped terraces. Afterwards, we go through a series of Inca baths and fountains used for rituals.
We go through a second checkpoint and follow the beautiful Inca trail throughout the cloudy forest for about 2 hours to the famous 50-step stairs that leads to the final section, the Inti Punku or Portal del Sol (sun gate), a place with a breathtaking and unforgettable panoramic view of Machu Picchu
We will enjoy the beautiful scenery before arriving at Machu Picchu around 4:00 in the afternoon.
You will have some time to take the first photos, but the following day will be a more extensive guided tour in the Sacred Inca City.
We board the bus back to the town of Machu Picchu, so you can check in to your hotel. You also have the option of visiting the hot springs. At night, you can find the best place to enjoy dinner.
On this morning, we take an early bus up to Machu Picchu to arrive just before 7:00, in time to enjoy the sunrise over the mountains and begin our 2 hour guided tour. Once out of this magical site, we take a downhill stroll towards the town of Machu Picchu where, if you wish, you can have lunch before boarding the train back to Ollantaytambo. Our van will be waiting to bring you back to Cusco. Back at your place, a well-deserved shower should finish off this magical experience before you decide to call us again for another one of the many adventures that we have to offer.
