Come and experience one of the seven wonders of the world with family or friends. Do not miss this opportunity to visit Machu Picchu and it’s surroundings.
Pick up at the airport or land terminal to take you to your hotel. You will have free time in the morning to explore the city. In the afternoon, after lunch (13:30 hours) we start the city tour. We will visit archaeological sites located in the upper part of the city, including Qoricancha, known as the temple of the sun in Inca times, this was the most important religious temple of all Tawantinsuyo (original name of the Inca empire) with some of the finest Inca stone constructions. Next is Sacsayhuaman where there is a beautiful panoramic view of the entire city.
Here we can admire the cyclopean masonry construction made by the Incas. Some walls were built with stones weighing between 5 to 128 tons. We continue to Qenqo, another ceremonial place dedicated to Pachamama (Mother Earth). This is a natural formation that the Incas carved and adapted to carry out their ceremonies with a very complex architectural work. After is Puka Pukara, the entrance checkpoint to the city of Cusco. We finish in Tambomachay, the temple dedicated to water.
We return to the Plaza de Armas (Cusco’s city center) at 18:30 hours.
Morning pick up at your hotel in our private bus to travel 40 minutes north out of Cusco to the archaeological center of Chinchero, an important lively town located in an agricultural area that still preserves the original Inca structure. The church and tower are from the colonial era, built on the basis of Inca temples. The artisans offer locally made textiles, using ancestral techniques. We continue to Moray, which is a circular system of platforms built using the natural subsidence in the area. The terraces have micro climates for experimental purposes, such as domestication, acclimatization, hybridization and in general, the investigation of plants.
Then we visit the salt mines that have been used since pre-Inca times. There are more than 3000 shallow pools, owned by almost 380 families. This salt water comes from natural sources that filter from the same hill, called Qoripukiu (golden fountain). We will enjoy a delicious tourist buffet in Urubamba, prepared with the products from the sacred valley. Next is Ollantaytambo, an area occupied successively by different cultures. In Inca times it was one of many multi functional towns for administrative, military, social and economic center, a check point to various ecological sites.
